KENSHIN KARATE SCHOOL

A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE KARATE DOJO

Kobudo training, like karate training, requires discipline in order to promote learning and ensure safety. The following kobudo rules and responsibilities apply to all participants and will be expanded and modified as required.

1. Martial arts weapons are just that - weapons. They are not toys. Each participant is responsible for his own weapon and for ensuring that it is handled in an appropriate manner.

2. Students are to carry their weapons in to and out of the dojo responsibly. For the larger weapons - particularly the bo staff - it should be carried either in a specially made bag or in plain sight in front of the student as they enter the dojo. Upon entering, the student will immediately place his bo on the ground and slide it under the shelf space in front of the desk area. It will remain there until the instructor advises them to retrieve their weapon. At the conclusion of the class, the reverse process will apply.

3. Students are required to inspect thier weapons and ensure that they are in proper working order and can be handled appropriately. This inlcudes sanding, finishing, and replacing worn out parts and/or weapons. Guidance should be sought from the instructor but ultimately the student is responsible for the proper working order of their weapons.
