The Kenshin Karate School's principal art form is traditional Japanese Gojuryu. In addition, training in Bujinkan Budo Taijitsu is also offered at the Kenshin Karate School. Finally, a number of special interest martial arts and related fitness classes are offered.
Gojuryu is a Japanese self-defense combat system that allows you to block and counter an opponent's attack with punches, strikes and kicks. At the same time, it is a strenuous physical art that is highly dynamic and makes balanced use of all muscle groups, providing excellent exercise, coordination and agility. The Gojuryu Karate style was originally developed in the early 20th century by Chogun Miyagi. He combined the hard Chinese style of Shao Lin Chuan and the soft Chinese style of Pa Kua Chang with the Okinawan style of Naha-te to form the complete system. Gojuryu means "the Way of the Hard and Soft".
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is a collection of nine schools (ryu) of samurai era japanese martial arts headed by Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi of Noda City, Japan. These arts cover the entire spectrum of protective action including: striking and kicking; grappling and throwing; and effective use of edged (tanto/knife, katana/sword, yari/spear, etc.), impact (staff, cane), and flexible (rope, chain and specialized ninja tools such as kyoketse shoge) weapons. Training is supportive and noncompetitive, with emphasis on relaxed, natural body movement. Attacks are not directly resisted and the opponent is always kept off balance, making these arts ideal for persons facing larger, stronger assailants.
