Junior and Adult Programs

We offer adult and junior programs for all levels of skill and encourage everyone's participation. Everyone can benefit from the study of the martial arts. Regular attendance of our separate adult and family programs will result in stress reduction and improved health.

The adult, junior, and family programs begin the formal training in the art of Gojuryu karate. Students are taught in a traditional manner with separate training curriculum at each belt level. Training involves basic technique, movement, one-step sparring (ippons), form exercises (kata) and free sparring (kumite, for green belts and above). Progress is signified through the use of colored belts (White, Green, Purple, Brown, Black). Classes in kata, ippons, and kumite are available to all students. KIHON is a programmed series of blocking, punching, striking and kicking techniques practiced during the karate workout. This is the foundation of karate training. KATA is a series of techniques performed in a dance-like sequence which simulates fighting with more than one opponent. The development of kata to perfection is the ultimate goal of a good karateka. KUMITE is basic one-point sparring (ippon kumite) and advanced free-style sparring (jiu kumite). Sparring is limited to green belts and above. As an art, karate cannot be limited to fighting techniques. It must enhance and enrich the karateka's life
